Why Proper ETC Registration Matters in Japan

We strictly follow NEXCO Japan’s rules to ensure your ETC card and unit are legally registered to you — not borrowed or shared illegally.

Beware of Illegally Issued or Loaned ETC Cards

Some providers offer same-day ETC cards by loaning cards that are not legally registered to the customer or vehicle. This practice is a direct violation of NEXCO’s Terms of Use and the policies of the issuing credit card companies.

Using someone else's ETC card — even if it appears to work — is equivalent to using another person’s credit card. It may function temporarily, but it is not legal, and carries serious risks.

  • ETC cards are non-transferable and must be registered in your name or your company's name.
  • The card must be matched to your vehicle and registered with the official ETC mileage program to qualify for toll discounts.
  • Cards not properly registered may lose all mileage discounts, have toll records blocked, or lead to service suspension.
  • Repeated violations can result in termination of your ETC account or future ineligibility.

At JapanETCcard, we follow the legal process to ensure your card is fully compliant, registered to you, and eligible for all mileage and toll benefits.

Protect yourself—avoid services offering “quick” or “shared” ETC cards that bypass legal requirements.

What We Do — 100% Legal & Verified

  • Your name is registered to the card, and your customer ID appear directly on the ETC card.
  • Your vehicle ETC unit, name, and ETC card is registered with the official ETC Mileage Service.

Vehicle Change Responsibilities

When changing your primary vehicle or adding a secondary vehicle, update your dashboard.

If a vehicle is no longer used, mark it as inactive on the mydashboard vehicles page.

Registering a new primary vehicle requires uploading your long white shaken form and ETC setup.
We verify the new vehicle documents for compliance.
We will also update all systems to ensure your new vehicle is the primary vehicle on file.

Failure to update documents may result in ETC card deactivation.

It is your legal responsibility to ensure your vehicle is registered when using Japan’s toll roads.

What Happens If You Don’t Register Correctly?

  • Toll records may become inaccessible.
  • ETC mileage discounts may be forfeited.
  • You may violate Japan’s road transport laws.

Our Commitment to Legal Setup

We receive new ETC cards every Wednesday and Friday.
